Tonight, as I was pondering ways to get more followers on Twitter, I was struck by the sudden extinction of the Scott4Gov Twitter account.
That’s right… this once-prolific bastion of Neumann-hating and Barrett-bashing is gone. Flat out gone. In the words of Ronald Reagan, Scott4Gov on Twitter has been consigned to the ash heap of history.
And apparently, the mother ship, www.Scott4Gov.com, isn’t too far behind. Or so it would seem.
You know how much I love the Scott4Gov blog. The blogosphere is full of intellectual dishonesty, but Scott4Gov really tops the heap in pettiness and brings out the worst in free speech. Nothing substantive – just raw bile, acrimony and sanctimonious sniping. Scott4Gov embodies everything that everyone hates about politics.
If you read political blogs, you have certainly noticed that Scott4Gov has gone black since May 14. What you may not have noticed, however, is that the management at Scott4Gov, presumably the Walker campaign, has scrubbed all comments from their site. I wonder if this is an attempt to erase any evidence of comments from former County Exec. office staffer Darlene Wink?
I’m surprised that Scott4Gov hasn’t been scrubbed altogether. Some Anonymous Dude who posted a brief comment on Walker’s Facebook page – and started this whole conflagration – must be laughing uncontrollably right now.
Sadly, conservatism has developed a massive cesspool of snarky, red meat-peddling exploiters of base GOP voters – such as Mark Belling and Ann Coulter. One online manifestation of this disturbing element is Scott4Gov. Sadder still, there are a ton of conservatives ready and willing to consume what these people are peddling. In many ways, we have changed places with liberals of the 1980s and 1990s – rarely do we provide any philosophical firepower to back up our arguments. We’ve given in to the sound bite culture and, as a result, become irrational, emotionally-driven screamers totally incapable of defending our ideology in a respectful manner.
Every time a “conservative” red meat blog like Scott4Gov is taken offline is a victory for conservatism. I will sleep well tonight.
